Online seminar: “Affaires privées. Aux sources du capitalisme de surveillance”

On January 21st, the Centre Internet et Société (CIS) of CNRS will host Christophe Masutti for a videoconference (in French) on his book, Affaires privées. Aux sources du capitalisme de surveillance (Private business: the sources of surveillance capitalism), as part of its Hypertextes seminar series.

In his book, published by C&F Éditions in 2020, Masutti retraces the technical and cultural history of 60 years of controversy, discourse, achievements and failures. This return to the sources offers an exciting insight into surveillance capitalism and the role played by marketing in the computerization of society, and describes the part taken by the IT revolutions and the data market in social and political transformations.

The author proposes a historical and political reflection on the conditions of emancipation in the face of the surveillance economy. How can we develop a digital economy that respects the privacy of individuals? How can we allow privacy to escape the power of business?

Those interested in attending the online talk are asked to register in advance.
