This online workshop on Computational Humanities Research (CHR) is organized by the DHLab of the KNAW Humanities Cluster and The Alan Turing Institute. It will consist of an online event with synchronous Q&A sessions, and asynchronous discussions on the CHR forum (please register to participate). 

The Computational Humanities Research (CHR) community is an international and interdisciplinary society that supports researchers with an interest in computational approaches to the humanities. Ultimately, the goal of the community is to set up a research-oriented, open-access computational humanities journal.

Topics to be addressed at the online workshop (November 18th-20th, 2020) include:

  • Statistical methods for humanities data analysis
  • Hypothesis-driven humanities research
  • Interpretation of results from statistical, empirical, and data-driven methods
  • Development of empirical methods
  • Translation and transfer of methods from disciplines, such as economics, biology, physics, psychology, and complexity science
  • Drawing computational analogies to unify disciplines
  • Modeling bias and uncertainty in the humanities
  • Method standardization
  • Statistical evaluation of categorization / periodization
  • How to bridge humanistic and statistical interpretations
  • Explanatory models for humanities research

The proceedings of CHR2020 will be published in the CEUR workshop proceedings. Authors of selected papers from the workshop will be invited to submit to a special issue of the Journal of Open Humanities Data.

Submissions of long and short papers as well as tutorials are welcome until July 27th, 2020. Please view the CHR website for submission instructions.
