Games on Campus: UNIL-EPFL video game meet-up

The goal of this event, co-organized by dhCenter member Yannick Rochat, is to provide an overview of research and teaching activities relating to video games at EPFL and the University of Lausanne (UNIL).

Whether it’s the use of video game technologies (game engines, virtual reality, gamification, etc.), or immersion in the study of these technologies, the organizers will highlight existing initiatives and bring together actors in the field.

Today, video games are a cultural asset practiced or “consumed” by a majority of society across all ages. They also represent tools and know-how that enable us to understand and master the many innovations brought about by digital technology (evolution of interfaces, artificial intelligence, etc.), and to grasp the new challenges raised by it.

Video game study centers can already be found in many universities and research institutes around the world, including Lausanne, which is also a leading research center in the digital humanities and the study of new media. The organizers therefore believe it is important to integrate video games into this ensemble, and to reflect on this subject through the organization of this event, which is planned as a monthly meet-up in the future.
