FORS Data Management Webinar Series 2022

FORS, the Swiss Center of Expertise in the Social Sciences, is offering four free webinars on data management for social science researchers, and anyone interested in data management and data sharing.

Through the four webinars below, which may be attended “à la carte” or all together, participants will learn how to obtain informed consent, how to document data throughout a research project, and how to anonymize quantitative or qualitative data.

  1.  Informed consent (September 27, 2022)

The first webinar, on obtaining informed consent, will take place on September 27, 2022 and will be presented by Pablo Diaz. It will cover the most important questions on consent with regard to setting up a social science research project. By the end of the presentation you will know how to formulate a coherent consent form and how to apply it.

  1. Data documentation (October 11, 2022)

The second webinar, on data documentation, will take place on October 11, 2022 and will be presented by Marieke Heers. It will address the importance of good documentation within a research project, and will guide you through project-level documentation and data-level documentation.   1.  Quantitative data anonymization (November 1, 2022)

The third webinar, by Brian Kleiner, on quantitative data anonymization, will take place on November 1, 2022. It will provide you with key concepts on anonymization in social science research, help you to develop an appropriate strategy, and will present the main techniques for anonymising your quantitative data.

  1. Qualitative data anonymization (November 22, 2022)

The fourth webinar, on qualitative data anonymization, will take place on November 22, 2022 and will be presented by Alexandra Stam. It will introduce you to the key principles of qualitative data anonymization and guide you through the different techniques for anonymising your data, as well as file handling procedures.

Practical information

The webinars will take place online between 1 and 2 pm and consist of a 45-minute presentation, followed by 15 minutes for questions.
