Simon Dumas Primbault holds a PhD in the history of science from the EUI (Florence) and the EHESS (Paris). His doctoral dissertation in the historical anthropology of knowledge focused on the material practices of Galileo’s last disciple, Vincenzio Viviani, and Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz.

His current research lies at the crossroads of STS, ethnography, information studies, and DH, and prolongs his doctoral interest in scholarly practices into the contemporary era by documenting how users of digital libraries such as arXiv or Gallica navigate an ever-growing mass of knowledge and information.
