This summer, the open-access scholarly article archive and distribution service arXiv celebrates 30 years of existence.
As it allows scientific findings to be shared digitally prior to publication in traditional journals, arXiv has helped change the way science is communicated since its founding in 1991 by Paul Ginsparg.
Today, the service houses over a million articles in a broad range of fields, including physics, mathematics, computer science, and statistics
In an August 13th blog post, moderators of the Cornell University-based service said they are “embarking on our next 30 years with renewed passion for open science, continuing to serve our original purpose and aiming to maximize research impact by making arXiv’s vast scientific content highly accessible and interoperable for the benefit of the community.”
