RESAW (Research Infrastructure for the Study of Archived Web Materials), is now inviting submissions of papers, workshops, panels and posters for its 2021 conference on “Mainstream vs marginal content in web history and web archives.”

The RESAW network was established in 2012, and promotes a collaborative European research infrastructure for the study of archived web materials. The fourth RESAW conference is being planned for 17-18 June, 20201, by the C²DH (Luxembourg Centre for Contemporary and Digital History) at the University of Luxembourg. Submissions of papers and posters, or of workshop and panel proposals are invited until October 15th, 2020, on the following topics:

  2. Paths taken or not taken
  3. The measurement and evolution of website audiences
  4. Success stories and failures in the web of the past
  5. Past and vanished glories of web services
  6. Website dynamics, updates and changes
  7. Mainstream content on the web
  8. Mainstream culture online
  9. Fan communities online
  10. Past success stories of personal websites
  11. Past examples of buzz and bad buzz created on the web
  12. Online virality and its evolution
  13. Influencers of the past
  14. Commercial vs non-commercial web
  15. Forgotten and marginalized web cultures
  16. Margins and counter-cultures in the web of the past
  17. Research methods for studying the archived web and its reception
  18. Noises and silences in web archives
  19. Inclusiveness in web archives
  20. Gaps in web archives
  21. Future histories and the archive of tomorrow
  22. Gaps in the research agenda of web histories and future prospects
